Why do we call it monkey bread??

I asked the boys if they would like to help me make monkey bread?  They were so excited, but their bubble quickly burst when they found out there was no monkeys involved.  Kylor quickly asked why we call it monkey bread then?  Well I don't know...???  So after a heated debate, that there would be no monkeys in the bread, and it would not be the shape of a monkey, Kylor gave in a helped make the bread.  The boys did a great job, they rolled the dough into balls, dipped in melted butter, rolled in brown sugar, and dropped in the pan, and repeat, repeat, repeat!  It was so yummy, everyone gobbled it up.  We all decided that monkey bread is delicious, even if we don't know why its called that, or has no monkeys in it.
